Bangladesh–Netherlands Partnership Dialogue to Focus on People, Social Responsibility and a Better Quality of Life

Dhaka, 12 August 2026: A unique Bangladesh–Netherlands Partnership Dialogue, themed “Beyond Business: Building Connections. Creating Opportunities. Empowering People.”,  held today at 7:00 PM at Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort, bringing together Dutch delegates and Bangladeshi stakeholders to explore a new dimension of international cooperation—one that puts people, relationships, mutual understanding and social responsibility at the centre.

Unlike conventional business or trade events, the programme is not designed as a business networking or commercial forum. Its principal objective is to promote meaningful people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and the Netherlands and to explore how individuals, communities and organisations can work together to contribute to a better quality of human life.

The dialogue is being organised by All Trading in association with the Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DBCCI), with Dutch delegates representing HOPE XXL, Vice Versa and Friendship.

At the heart of the initiative is the vision of HOPE XXL, a Dutch non-profit foundation working for a world in which, everyone has the opportunity to live a good life, a life that can be rated “Eight out of Ten.” The initiative places well-being, connectedness and sustainability at the heart of efforts to build a better society.

From government-to-government to people-to-people

The Bangladesh–Netherlands dialogue seeks to promote a new approach to international cooperation. The accompanying People’s Partnership concept argues that the future of a country is not shaped by governments alone, but also by people who meet, understand one another, build trust and choose to move forward together.

The proposed People’s Partnership Connect aims to create opportunities for people and organisations in the two countries to find one another, exchange knowledge and experiences, collaborate and develop long-term relationships. These connections may involve schools, universities, researchers, young people, professionals, journalists, civil society organisations and community initiatives.

The initiative also encourages people to discover each other’s countries and cultures through documentaries, stories, podcasts, photographs, news and personal experiences—helping create greater understanding, respect, curiosity and a sense of shared humanity.

The Netherlands has extensive experience in areas such as water management, infrastructure and innovation, while Bangladesh brings valuable experience in climate adaptation, community resilience and responding to challenges in a densely populated delta environment. The two countries have also maintained diplomatic and development relations for more than five decades, cooperating in areas including water management, food security, healthcare and sustainable development.

The partnership therefore seeks to go beyond traditional development cooperation and establish stronger bonds between ordinary people and communities.

A shared responsibility for a better tomorrow

The initiative recognises that many of the world's major challenges cannot be solved by governments alone. Climate change, social inequality, sustainability, human well-being and community resilience require cooperation involving citizens, young people, educational institutions, researchers, businesses, civil society, journalists, artists and governments.

The central message of the dialogue is therefore simple: international cooperation should begin with people—not only with money, projects or institutions.

Through stronger human connections, mutual respect, knowledge-sharing and social responsibility, the organisers believe Bangladesh and the Netherlands can contribute to a more connected, sustainable and humane world.
